Caption
Leon and Vivian Cody are seen manhandling a model glider in the foreground. Taken in the Farnborough airship shed. Samuel Franklin Cody (1861-1913) was a Texan who joined a wild west show as a young man. His troupe came to Europe in the 1890's. He experimented with kites in 1900 and was taken on by the British military in 1904 to develop man-lifting kites. He also pioneered airships at Farnborough and on 16 October 1908 built and flew the first aeroplane to fly in England. He became a British citizen before being killed when one of his many planes broke up in mid air., 7020930
