Print of an angraving published in 1841. John Campbell (1766-1840) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and worked there as a minister and contributed to religious magazines. Campbell travelled to South Africa c 1819-1821 where he inspected mission projects. He is pictured here in a veldt landscape surrounded by natives and oxen-drawn wagons. Campbell is holding a large ribbed umbrella in one hand whilst his other is outstreched illustrating the lack of rain in southern Africa. At the bottom of the print is a facsimile of Campbell’s signature., 7019618
