Titel
Coronation procession, London, 1902.
Caption
A snapshot photograph of crowds lining a London street during the coronation procession of King Edward VII (ruled 1901-1910). The royal carriage can just be seen above the heads of the cheering crowds. Although Edward had ascended to the throne on his mother's death in 1901, his coronation did not take place until 1902. Originally scheduled for June 26, the coronation had to but put back until August 9 because Edward had to undergo an emergency appendectomy. Originally a shooting term, the word 'snapshot' was first linked with photography in the late 1850s, when it was used to describe a photograph taken with a brief exposure. Over time, snapshot came to mean any amateur photograph taken with a simple camera., 6988004
