Titel
Schweppes mineral water bottle, 19th century.
Caption
Egg-shaped water bottled marked with the words 'Aerated water Schweppes, 51 Berners Street, London'. Schweppes was founded in London in 1789 by Jacob Schweppe and was one of the first bottling companies to specialise in bottled mineral water. The egg shape became popular around 1790 because the bottle had to be stored on its side thus ensuring that the cork stayed wet and did not perish., 6969915
