Titel
Lilienthal glider built c 1891.
Caption
This glider was built by the German, Otto Lilienthal, one of the pioneers of gliding flight. Tested outside Berlin, Lilienthal's gliders achieved repeated gliding flights. With his practical hang-gliders Lilienthal made more than 2000 glides from natural slopes and erected an artificial hill outside Berlin to allow more convenient testing and practice. Lilienthal died gliding in the Rhinower hills near Stolin in 1896 when a gust stalled his machine beyond recovery., 6964830
