Engineer Products That Make a Difference

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Product Development Engineer who can transform ambitious product ideas into refined, robust and manufacturable physical products.

You’ll work in a highly user-centric, collaborative team united by a common mission: applying human-centered design to build solutions that empower dermatologists to make better decisions about skin health.

Your background may be in consumer electronics, cameras, optical devices, medical technology or other premium physical products. What matters most is that you understand how to engineer complex assemblies – including injection-molded components and precision-machined CNC parts – from initial architecture and prototypes through tooling, industrialization and serial production.

If you are passionate about outstanding product design, engineering excellence and building products people love to use, we’d love to meet you.

Your responsibilities

As part of our interdisciplinary Hardware R&D team, you will take ownership of mechanical product development from initial discovery and concept development through successful serial production.

You will:

  • Lead the mechanical development of innovative medical imaging products and accessories from concept through serial production.
  • Apply human-centered design principles to understand clinical needs and translate user insights into thoughtful product solutions.
  • Collaborate closely across disciplines and with users to explore concepts, evaluate alternatives and identify the right solution before engineering it for production.
  • Translate industrial design concepts into robust, elegant and manufacturable product architectures.
  • Design complex assemblies incorporating injection-molded housings, internal structures, precision-machined CNC components and electromechanical interfaces.
  • Develop robust and manufacturable mechanical solutions using SolidWorks.
  • Apply DFM and DFA principles throughout development, including material selection, part architecture, joining methods, tolerance management and assembly strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with Industrial Design on construction, detailing, materials, surface finishes and CMF.
  • Work with Electronics, Optics, Firmware, Software, Product Management, Quality and Manufacturing throughout the complete product lifecycle.
  • Develop prototypes, evaluate competing concepts and validate critical design assumptions early.
  • Create complete engineering documentation, including CAD models, production drawings, tolerance specifications, BOMs and assembly instructions.
  • Lead mechanical design reviews and technical discussions.
  • Collaborate directly with international suppliers, contract manufacturers, machine shops and toolmakers.
  • Support tooling development, sampling, manufacturing ramp-up and product industrialization.
  • Review molded and machined parts, investigate production challenges and implement sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Improve existing products in terms of functionality, usability, quality, manufacturability and cost.
  • Evaluate new materials, manufacturing technologies and production processes.
  • Contribute to scalable hardware platforms for future product generations.

Your profile

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Development, Mechatronics or a comparable discipline.
  • At least five years of professional experience developing physical products for serial manufacture.
  • Advanced SolidWorks skills and experience designing complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Demonstrated experience engineering injection-molded products, precision-machined CNC parts and the assemblies that integrate them—from concept through production.
  • Strong practical knowledge of:
    • Injection-molded part design, including draft, ribs, bosses, snaps, wall thickness and cosmetic surfaces
    • Plastic materials, tooling development and molded-part optimization
    • Precision CNC-machined components, materials, tolerances and surface finishes
    • Assembly architecture and joining methods
    • Tolerance analysis and dimensional control
    • DFM and DFA
    • Supplier and contract-manufacturer collaboration
  • Experience bringing complete products from concept through industrialization and serial production.
  • Analytical thinking and structured, hands-on problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to take substantial ownership across multiple projects.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in interdisciplinary and international teams.
  • Good written and spoken English and German.

Particularly Relevant Experience

  • Consumer electronics
  • Cameras, optical instruments or handheld devices
  • Premium consumer products
  • Electromechanical products with complex molded housings
  • Products combining molded plastics with precision-machined components
  • Products requiring refined materials, finishes and CMF
  • Precision medical or laboratory equipment
  • Experience in medical devices or another regulated industry is welcome, but not required.
  • Additional beneficial knowledge includes:
  • Optical or illumination systems
  • Rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing
  • Design verification and validation
  • Product Lifecycle Management systems
  • ISO 13485 or other regulated development environments

Who you are

You …

  • Enjoy building products people love to use.
  • Care deeply about understanding users and solving the right problems.
  • See engineering as part of a broader human-centered product-development process.
  • Think beyond CAD and understand how products are manufactured and assembled.
  • Care about both engineering performance and the quality of the finished product.
  • Balance ambitious design with practical engineering.
  • Take ownership and drive projects forward.
  • Are curious, hands-on and continuously look for better solutions.
  • Thrive in a highly collaborative team united by a common mission.
