Titel Large propellor engine being tested in wind tunnel, Bristol, 1959.
Caption Formed in 1958 through a merger between Armstrong Siddeley and Bristol Aero Engines, Bristol Siddeley Aircraft worked from Filton airfield near Bristol. The company developed many innovations including the Mk320 Olympus engine designed for the TSR-2 jet aircraft which was abandoned by the government after only a few flights . However the research and development involved proved invaluabe and led to the success of Concorde and the Harrier jet aircraft which had a unique vectored thrust engine. Filton was a powerhouse of aircraft achievements. Photograph by Walter Nurnberg who transformed industrial photography after WWII using film studio lighting techniques., 7028356
