Caption Model. This Italian-built car took part in the long distance Peking to Paris race in 1907 and was driven by Prince Scipione Borghese. Five cars entered the event, competing for a first prize of a magnum of champagne. The cars left Peking on 10th June 1907 and the Prince arrived first in Paris 60 days later, on 10th August 1907, having travelled over 10, 000 miles. The Itala has a 7 litre four-cylinder, water-cooled engine which develops about 45 hp at 900 rpm. The additional fuel tanks fitted for this race provided a total capacity of 84 gallons. 35 gallons of lubricating oil and 12 spare tyres were also carried. Itala were one of the foremost Italian car manufacturers before World War I, and their cars enjoyed considerable success in continental motor racing., 6987401
