Caption David Gestetner invented the first stencil duplicator in 1881 and established the Broad Lane, Tottenham factory which employed 6000 people until it moved to Wellingborough in the 1970s. The Gestetner provided the only means for low budget publishing and was the popular. effective tool of groups who wanted to get their message across. The Gestetner was successfully redesigned in 1929 by Raymond Loewy who turned the factory machine shape into an attractive piece of office furniture.
