The Peterloo Massacre took place at St Peter's Field on 16 August 1819, when cavalry charged into a crowd of 60, 000___80, 000 who had gathered to demand the reform of parliamentary representation. 15 people were killed and 400___700 were injured. The massacre was given the name Peterloo in an ironic comparison to the Battle of Waterloo, which had taken place four years earlier. Part of the national commemorations marking 200 years since the Peterloo Massacre in Manchester in 1819, this headline exhibition for 2019 tells the story of Peterloo and highlights its relevance today, 5103301
