Melanoma Symposium in Cape Town: Exchange on Skin Cancer Detection and AI in Dermatology

On February 28, the Cape Town Skin Cancer Symposium took place at the Radisson Hotel in Cape Town, organized by the Melanoma Society of South Africa. The event brought together dermatologists, partners, and experts to discuss current developments in skin cancer detection and the evolving role of technology in dermatology.

For FotoFinder and DermLite, the symposium offered a valuable opportunity to reconnect with doctors and partners from the region and to engage in many insightful conversations throughout the day. Alongside a strong scientific program, the event created space for meaningful exchange and professional dialogue.

Strong Interest in AI Developments

A highlight of the symposium was Moha’s lecture on the latest developments in artificial intelligence in dermatology

The interest was remarkable — the lecture room quickly filled up, and additional chairs had to be brought in to accommodate everyone who wanted to attend. The lively discussions and questions that followed reflected the growing interest in how AI-supported technologies can contribute to skin cancer detection and clinical decision support.

The topic also connected naturally to earlier discussions during the visit to Cape Town, where the role of AI in dermatology was a central theme.

Connecting with Partners and the Local Community

We were also pleased to welcome Peter Kinhan, COO of FotoFinder/DermLite, who travelled to Cape Town to meet our partners and gain further insight into the local market.

Events like this highlight how important personal exchange and international collaboration are for advancing dermatology and improving patient care.

We would like to sincerely thank all doctors and partners who visited us during the Cape Town Skin Cancer Symposium

A special thank you goes to the Melanoma Society of South Africa and the organizers of the event for hosting such a well-organized and engaging symposium with an excellent scientific program. We look forward to continuing the conversation in the futureFormularbeginnFormularende
