30 Years of Photoselection

What started on January 2, 1983, in Hamburg with an enormous amount of enthusiasm rapidly evolved into a photo agency with a strong brand name. Photoselection represents renowned photographers and offers a sophisticated, constantly expanding archive for German and international celebrities.

In 2005, Hilaneh von Kories founded a gallery that bears her name as a platform for classic prints beyond the fleeting digital stream of information and as a forum for upcoming photographers. At the center of attention are striking individual images and the capacity to highlight the body of work and the themes that the artists have focused on.

It is a perfect match for Hilahneh von Kories to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her agency, Photoselection, at her gallery with works by 45 photographers, among which longtime collaborators Jim Rakete, Anton Corbijn, Mathias Bothor and Sheila Rock, lensmen like Christian Schoppe and Peter Hönnemann and representatives of the younger generation of photo artists, among them Vanessa Maas, Jeanne Degraa and Stefan Klüter.

Light & Fresh: new homepage

Dear photo editors and art buyers,

We updated our website and straightened it up. It has become wonderfully light and fresh!
The reduction to only few elements makes it even easier for you to navigate.

What's New?

. Under the item "Menue" the entire navigation was summarized and reorganized. If necessary, it can be opened with one click

. On a large screen the FOTOFINDER Picture Editors present their favorites on selected topics. A click on the image opens a search result of similar pictures 'choosen' by our proven Similarity Search technology

. In a separate notification area, we draw attention to agency highlights, new images in the portal and helpful features of the site

The "picturehouse 2011" in Munich

The 'picturehouse 2011' in Munich - my first - was a nice experience, because I was able to assign some familiar voices to a number of faces unknown so far.
Even now I am looking forward to meet you and many many FOTOFINDER customers more at the next picturehouse or on other occasion.
I would also like to network with as many picture byuers as possible on XING.

Direct layout and hires download

You favour a certain image out of your current search result and want to download it as layout for free directly?

Then simply click on the according icon below the thumbnail in search result or preview for loading the layout file down on your computer immediately. Only requirement is that you are logged-in.

If you have an agreement for direct download with us you can also obtain hires files as easy as layouts directly from search result or preview.

SIMilarity search released

Now the fun really starts ... with Bubble!

We would like to introduce a new search capability the similarity search technology on FOTOFINDER, briefly:

Underneath each thumbnail you'll find a little gadget we call "Bubble". Please roll over the SIM icon and Bubble will be happy to assist you with your search query.

	"Visual": searches for similiar images only (composition, colour, mood) Keyword(s) will be automatically removed from the fulltext search field.
	"Visual + text": combines fulltext search with similar image search Combine the two search capabilities add or remove search terms and maximize your search with better search results.

To perform a search query please select one of the options mentioned above. For further information please use the FAQ.

You are a designer, web professional or art buyer and your main product is commercial? If you have a download account with FOTOFINDER you will get non-watermarked comp images (600 pixels long) free of charge for layout purposes.

You have two options:

Just click on the link ("layout") in the preview window or download it from the lightbox - a single one or a selection of comp images.

Start again from scratch

After a few clicks you may get lost in your search. To go back to a previous search you can use the Search History in the menu bar. Just click on it to open the list of your recent search requests, from the browser start basically.

Registered users will find additionally up to the last 20 search requests regardless of the date (even if in the meantime the computer was shut down).

Extra Tip: for clients working on time budgets the Search History also displays the start time of every listed request. With this tool you know how long your search took exactly.

Advanced search with agencies selection

You do have your favourite agencies and photographers? You can search within your own favourite providers with the agencies selection.

Once you're logged in please go to "My account" and click on "Agencies". With a few clicks you can create your own selection. First of all, choose a name for the new selection
(e.g. "nature") and create the new group. Then select the providers you want to have in this group and save it.

Tip :You can as well select first all the providers and remove the ones you don't need. You can change oder delete a selection at any time.

So as to use your agencies selection, just enter your search terms, click on the "search options" button and choose your selection.

You can use a selection as a default search option as well. Just go to "My account", click on "Search option", select the selection and save your choice.

Narrow your search down

With more than 6 Mio pics on FOTOFINDER you might sometimes get an oversized result. With a few clicks you can optimize your image selection. Next to the search field you find a triangle hiding a variety of options.

On default (blue-highlighted) your search has no limitation, you will search for rights managed (RM) and royalty free (RF) images simultanously. You might like to limit your search by selecting only one option. By activating the MR button you can secondarly narrow your search down for model released pictures only.

Additionally you might like to limit the period: Please click on "period from" and then on "period to". An easy to handle calendar will help you for a fast selection of the required period. After your extended selection is finished please repeat your search and you will get your contained image selection.

Fresh cartoons on FOTOFINDER: toonpool.com

The world's largest portal for caricaturists and cartoonists complements our range of high-quality illustrations. Toonpool.com carefully selected 100 professional artists for the distribution on FOTOFINDER.

Among them are well-known newspaper cartoonists like Klaus Stuttmann ("Der Tagesspiegel", Berlin), Kostas Koufogiorgos ("To Paron", Athens), Jan Tomaschoff ("Die Welt", Berlin) and Marcin Bondarowicz ("Le Monde Diplomatique Polish").

International artistic cartoonists expand the selection, particularly hightlighted Pawel Kuczynski from Poland, Marcello Rampazzo from Brazil or from Italy Matteo Bertelli.

The range of drawings starts with the classic three-page cartoon for newspapers up to detailled coloured illustrations for magazines, literature and advertising.

New search panel

We have re-designed the search panel and moved the login field.

You can now concentrate on your search request with the login field always at hand.

Once you're signed in your personal details (e.g. "Debbie Smith") will

be highlighted in blue font on the top right of the main navigation bar. The logout button is located left to your details.

We have assigned more space to the search box field - whether it is a single keyword or a combination of search terms, they will always be visible.

To access additional search options just click on the right arrow to enhance the search panel.

You will be able to search

> within a specific date range
> for a specific licence type (RM or RF)
> for Model Released images (MR)

The basic setting is a search for both RM and RF. Once you have chosen

an option it will change to blue and becomes grey if it is turned off.

You can save your preferred search settings under the "Search Options" section of "My Account".

Magnify your search result

On each search result page you can now get larger images. Just move the pointer over a thumbnail and a larger image will open. You can switch this feature on and off using the link "Loupe (Rollover)" from the search sub-navigation panel. This option is available for all users.

If you are a registered user you can permanently set it in the "View Options" of the "My Account/Search Options" section.

Adjustments to search engine

Your search request will no longer be expanded into
singular and plural forms and vice versa.

We decided to de-activate the search expansion ("EXP" tick box).

As a result we will be able to answer your search queries more quickly. Furthermore the search results will prospectively be less ambiguous.

You can expand your search request by using an asterisk (*) to find various word endings.

Cut down our image proposal by using agency groups. Create different groups for various subject areas and you only get images to choose which fit your purpose.

Lightbox as storage

If you want to have an overview of your picture you bought from FOTOFINDER you can use the Lightbox as a tool to save it. Pictures you store in a Lightbox will stay there as long as you delete them manually. Pictures in the Download Archiv will be deleted automaticly after 30 days. However when a picture provider deletes a picture from the FOTOFINDER database the picture in your Lightbox will be erased automaticly as well.

Agency name in basket

From now on we display the agency name or the photographers name on the thumbnail/s in your basket. This indicates the name of the agency or photographer you should contact with any questions regarding rights or fees.

New feature: Period Search

- George Bush photographs from 1987 to 2001?

Easy to do with our new „Period Search“ function. Search for particular dates, months or years. Define exact periods of times and combine them with search terms, or use them singly – subject to your demands. Just check it out!

New feature: Editbox

By hitting the icon on the right side, your lightbox will switch to full-site view. Vary between different image combinations per drag and drop by clicking and moving the title bar of an image. Zoom in and out to change sizes of your thumbnails and download layout files by using the left symbol of the icon bar.
